Dear Mr. Hicks,

Johnson Library,

What did Magic Johnson have to do with Texas and why is his library located there? I know he’s from Michigan and played his whole career for the Lakers in Los Angeles. He always beat up on the Spurs, the Rockets, and the Mavericks pretty good, so I don’t know why you would want his library in the Lone Star state. I guess there was that time when the Rockets bounced the Lakers in the first round back in ’81, Magic’s sophomore year, but don’t have to tell you that. Was Magic born in Austin? He must have been, that’s the only thing that makes sense.

Before I make the trip to your city could you tell me a little bit about some of the exhibits and merchandise you have available? How many books has Magic written? Does your library also include books that Magic has read? Do you have any tapes from his great television talk show? How many of the “Showtime” Lakers have visited the library? How often does Magic drop by? Again, it would make so much more sense if his library were in LA. I just can’t get over the fact that it’s in Austin, Texas.

I have a picture of your guy and myself taken at the Laker training camp in Hawaii in 1988. Is this an item you might possibly want? Please get back to me at your earliest convenience.

Gabe Kaplan

Mr. Kaplan,

This is the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, one of 10 Presidential Libraries across the United States. Although we have no objects about Magic, you should still come and visit Austin and tour our museum.

Robert,

How silly of me not to realize your library was devoted to Lyndon Johnson. If I ever am in Austin, I will definitely stop by. Can you ask Ladybird if she would like to put the attached picture of Magic and me in the library anyway? It might make a good conversation piece.
