Michael cried out as if stabbed with a bolt of power so shocking it dropped him to the floor. His body convulsed, his limbs and head smacked against the hardwood, his teeth bit into his tongue. Shards of pain cut into his heart and ripped through his organs.
Someone screamed. Man? Woman? He didn’t care. Hands pinned his flailing arms and legs to the ground. Another caught his head. A woman shouted his name. Eyes stared into his, dropping tears onto his face. He stared into those eyes as the pain strangled his body, cut off his breath, and constricted his heart.
She was his lifeline. His hope. The goddess who would stop the pain. Then the blackness swallowed her from view.
