Turmeric flu shot

It’s at this time of year that we feel a little slow and our immune system often takes a hit. At home, we make our own flu shot remedy to keep the germs at bay. Although it is super-hard to swallow, you’ll have to trust us that this concoction does the trick. Store the remedy in your fridge and have a shot every night before bed until the jar is empty and you’re feeling fresh.

Makes 4–6 shots

Use

3 garlic cloves, finely chopped

3 cm (1¼ in) fresh ginger knob, finely chopped

¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Juice of 1 lemon

1 teaspoon honey

1 teaspoon dandelion root, finely chopped

½ teaspoon turmeric powder

½ cup (125 ml/4 fl oz) water

If you’re really in need

¼ cup (60 ml/2 fl oz) apple cider vinegar

2 teaspoons vitamin C powder

Dash of liquid zinc

Do

1

Place the garlic, ginger, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, honey, dandelion root, turmeric and water into a saucepan over low heat. Let the mixture simmer for 5–10 minutes.

2

Place the mixture into the fridge to cool.

3

If you’ve got it on hand, add some apple cider vinegar, vitamin C powder and liquid zinc to the cooled mixture.

4

Pour about 20 ml (½ fl oz) of the remedy into a small glass, hold your nose and scull!

By the way, we’d recommend chasing down the remedy with some juice or kombucha. The flavour is very strong!
