Peter Manchester is an accomplished illustrator and painter whose youthful tinkering was a true test of his parents’ affection. They did their best to keep him away from the influence of hockey in Belgium, the Congo, France, Norway, and finally the United States. There he tried his hand at many trades, including ski bum, newspaper reporter, and museum curator. He arrived in the land of real ice in 1992 and settled in Sackville, New Brunswick.

A serendipitous encounter with his son’s broken hockey sticks unleashed a torrent of ideas. In the face of incredulity and amazement, this Leonardo of Laminated Sticks stretched the bounds of glue, duct tape, good taste, and craftsmanship to write and illustrate his first book, 50 Things to Make with a Broken Hockey Stick. He is currently combing Sackville yard sales and hockey rinks for even more broken sticks with which to fabricate the fantastic creations of the future.
