Part 12: All Good Things Come To An End

image

I hadn't expected to see anyone at the gates when we opened the doors this morning, considering how disastrous our last day had been. But much to my surprise, there was actually a large crowd of people there! Apparently, they had gone back to their normal Roblox servers and told their friends about the carnage they had seen. Of course, all Roblox people enjoy chaos, so their friends had come back the next day to see for themselves. But instead of carnage and destruction, they saw a huge pirate ship! A gasp rippled through the crowd and they pushed anxiously to get into the park and onto the ride. This was a hopeful sign, but I was still anxious to see how things went.

Of course, it wasn't just patrons who were outside the theme park this morning. Mr. West was there too. He lumbered up the path looking as grim today as he did when he left us. When he caught sight of the pirate ship he halted and I saw his jaw drop slightly. Still, he said nothing, but simply walked into the park and towards the new ride.

“Do you think he's going to try and wreck it?” Calvin asked nervously.

“I don't think he can. I made sure there was only one setting on the control panel when I programmed it.” I answered.

Our boss didn't try to sabotage the ride. Instead, He climbed aboard one of the carts along with the rest of the patrons. Moments later the ride began and the carts were whisked away on the metal track. Calvin and I watched, holding our breaths, as the ride progressed. I was terrified that something would go wrong, but to my delight, it went perfectly! The screams of excitement and fear from the riders were like music to my ears. When the ride ended and the carts returned to the start point the people were clapping and cheering.

Everyone except for Mr. West, of course. He pulled his massive gut out of the cart and came lumbering towards Calvin and I. His eyes were gleaming, but he was not smiling.

“I suppose that you think since you made this ride that your jobs are safe now, right?”

We didn't answer.

“I see. Well, let me inform you now that they are not. I'm sick of both of you. This is an excellent ride, that's for sure. And I'm glad you guys took the time to make it last night! It's going to make me rich! But you're still fired. You two can show each other out now.”

Mr. West had an unfriendly grin on his face as we turned and walked away.

“That jerk,” Calvin muttered. “We do all the work and he gets rich off it!”

“It was fun while it lasted,” I replied.

We had just left the gates of Happytown when a voice called out behind us.

“Excuse me! You two!”

We turned and saw a well-dressed man inside the park hurrying to catch us. He stuck out his hand.

“You probably don't know me, but I'm the owner of that vacant lot just across the street. I bought the land a few days ago and plan on building a Roblox theme park there! I couldn't help but overhear when your boss fired you two! So I was wondering if you'd be interested in joining my team as the lead designers of my park?”

“A-are you serious?” I asked, shocked.

“Absolutely! I trust your judgment. Anything you want to build is fine by me, so long as it's better than that pirate ship you built at Happytown! I want to put that guy out of business.”

Calvin and I looked at each other and then answered in unison. “Sir, you've got yourself a deal!
