My wife Suzy read, reread, edited, and contributed to every draft of The Light of Day, as she has for each of my books. More important is what she has brought to my life every day over these last fifty-three years. I won’t try to describe the many ways she has supported me, but I will tell you that her pancakes, sausage, and eggs over-easy for breakfast are a source of delight almost every weekend.

My children, their spouses, and my nine grandchildren have each in their own way contributed directly to my efforts to tell a good story. My sister Terry is my biggest fan, and her keen perception of human nature and innate common sense continue to amaze me.

My deepest thanks and appreciation go to the professionals at Beaufort Books. Eric Kampmann believed in me and Jack Patterson from day one, and he never gave up on me during my period of “Covid Blues.” Editorial Director Megan Trank has been a true and dear friend, a constant source of support and assistance. Emma St. John is surely a marketing whiz.

She was willing to jump in on short notice to guide “the horse into the barn.” Thanks to Martin Short once again for his brilliant cover design and Rio Santisteban for his editing skills. Alexa Schmidt carried the ball across the goal line, and I look forward to many more touchdowns in our future.

My entire family is forever grateful to George and his family, without whose generosity none of my novels would be a reality.
