« on: April 07, 2019, 07:05:02 PM »
There seems to be a lot of spam entries in the subcategories of this forum. Any help possible?

Yes, there is a spam problem. We are trying to improve the configuration of the forum (making the registration captcha harder for example), but we are happy to hear on ideas on how reduce spam.

The captcha was already pretty hard :undecided:
Any chance of setting a user to moderated as default, and removing that status after his first useful post? That would imply quite some manual labor though. But using akismet is not really an option.

You could require a captcha for every post. That is what other forums do.

We just enabled that for the first posts of each user. Let's see if that improves things.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Did you consider Bayesian spam filters like spamassassin for e-mail?

We haven't tried, we should check if there is any support for bayesian filters in simple machines forum (the software we use in this forum).
