James Hayburn returns from war only to be encouraged by his uncle, The Earl of Halford, to go off and see the world. He has had too many affairs in London.

He goes to fascinating Mexico, because it hardly matters to him where he is. There he meets the beautiful, sweet Lady Ashley, and cannot get her out of his mind.

Too bad that Lady Ashley is married to the scion of a powerful Mexican family.

Ashley is trouble, and James’ friend tells him that he must set his sights elsewhere. But James knows that this is different.

Now he just needs to believe it.
