In a future where no one needs to sleep, homes are unnecessary. A simple dimensional cubby in a hi-rise gymnasium is all anyone needs. But no one realized that stuffing thousands of cubbies so close together would have the side effect of opening access to even more dimensions. Joe and Alice discovered how to get into the other dimensions accidentally. They found themselves in a war between computers for control of the city. They helped the friendly computer win, but now the completion of the superstrand opti-cable connection to Chicago is going to open enough band width for an intelligent computer to visit. Or attack. Joe's visit to his grandmother in Chicago gives him an opportunity to check out the ruling computer. May be it'll be friendly like Barton Street. But then again, Barton's the only friendly computer they've met. So, probably not.
