Set fifty years after the events in SHEPHERD AVENUE, the now sixty-year-old Joey Ambrosio is a successful children's book author and is estranged from his daughter. Facing what could only be a post- midlife crisis, Joey climbs to the top of the Brooklyn Bridge so he can scatter his father's ashes into the wind. Then, on a whim, he decides to take a nostalgic trip back to the Brooklyn neighborhood where he once spent an idyllic summer half a century earlier and ends up buying his grandparents' house on Shepherd Avenue. Thing is, the once Italian neighborhood has changed drastically--boarded up stores, bars on windows, and a sense of despair hangs over everything. Joey is not sure why he feels the need to return to his roots--he gets mugged, robbed, and is eyed with suspicion by his black and Hispanic neighbors. But he stays on anyway and will learn that sometimes, sixty really is the new forty.
