The Fact and Fiction of the old west. Believe it or not 'Deadwood' was a real western town and 'Calamity Jane' was a real person that lived in Deadwood. Calamity Jane was made into a mythical character of the old west largely by the writers of the Dime novels and pulp fiction. Calamity Jane was a living legend during her lifetime.
This book is a contains both the fact and fiction of Calamity Jane. The introduction is a short biography written by Calamity Jane - herself (a.k.a. Marthy Cannary later Mrs Marthy Burk). The rest of the book is reproduction of an actual dime novel titled "Deadwood Dick's Doom: Calamity Jane's Last Adventure" by Edward L. Wheeler.
