This stimulating, futuristic novel follows a young girl (Layka) through wild, unstable jungles and groundbreaking environmental discoveries as she accompanies her scientist father and his team on missions throughout what was formerly Latin America.

This story opens decades after an arms race for geopolitical dominance has built up between America and a government called COCA (comprised of much of Asia and parts of Europe). Through Layka, we slowly see the cost of those events, both environmentally and in regard to personal freedoms. Carbon emissions and deforestation have placed the Earth's oceans and jungles on life support as a result of the fight for global dominance.

In a last-ditch effort to preserve Earth's resources, some of the world's top scientists – led by Layka’s father – are sent to restore and research the jungles of what was formerly Latin America and is now known as The Latin Research Resurgence, or The LRR The fall of a global juggernaut has sent the entire Latin Research Resurgence into a state of disorder. Breaking news of the fall has the team of scientists eager to monitor and update their research, in fear of losing their jobs. When the research team decides to leave the main campus to go patrol the entire jungle, new species are discovered – along with a discovery that will forever change our understanding of natural selection, evolution and other assumed facts of nature. These discoveries add more fuel to already heightened government tensions, and soon Layka must decide whether to trust the security of her home in the LRR or the protection found in the mysterious jungle.
