Psychology, Spelling and Education

This book arose from a conference on 'Psychology, Spelling and Education', held at Newcastle Polytechnic in July 1990. It contains papers by psychologists, educationalists and linguists on various aspects of spelling, with sections on: The English Spelling System; Spelling Processes; The Development of Spelling Ability; Spelling Problems; and Educational Practice. Its aim is to promote cross-talk between all those, from various disciplines, with an interest in spelling and to provide an introduction to some key concerns and theories in the current debate about how children learn to spell.
