Grant (1822-87) was a Scottish novelist and miscellaneous writer who produced more than 90 books, over 50 of which were novels. He is best-known today as an historian, primarily because of his thoroughly researched six-volume "Old and New Edinburgh", published in1880. This novel set against the backdrop of the Crimean War was published in 1875.
