In 19th century England, young Henry Abbott starts working for the Partridges, a noble and wealthy family, who employ him as a tutor to their beautiful but whirlwind daughter Sarah. Henry is assigned with the task to make Sarah a decent girl and to teach her how to behave in upper class society.

Zealous as he initially is in his efforts, Henry soon realizes that dealing with the girl is a rather challenging undertaking. Furthermore, life under the roof of Partridge Mansion is nothing as pleasurable and promising as he had envisioned it to be, and the issues the family has with their daughter do not seem to be rooted in Sarah`s unruly behavior alone.

When Henry falls in love with Sarah (and she with him), things start to get complicated, because Sarah is promised to marry someone else.

Ignoring this fact, the two lovers engage in a sweet and passionate love affair while trying hard to keep their feelings for each other under a veil of secrecy - until eventually Damian Cox, Sarah`s evil-minded husband-to-be, finds out about them.
