Captain Dylan Chase's wife is missing and rumours are flying about town that he is responsible. Chase approaches Clara Fitzgerald, Brighton's first female private detective, to ask her to find his wife and clear his name. But Elaine Chase seems to have vanished into thin air and no one can explain why. The police believe she has run off or is dead, and are more interested in a spate of farm thefts happening locally.
