A weathered leather pouch is found long ago beneath the rubble of a tumbled-down hut. Inside is a stack of tattered papers containing the writings of an aged Mohawk woman. It is her life story written at time of the early incursions of Europeans into North America. The compelling memoirs tell much of the collision of social and ethical values that make up our country. The writer is Sky Flower and the year, 1692. With her quill she writes what will become Book 4 of the historical novels called The River Quintet. In the first two books of the series, she was a baby and in Book 3, a toddler. She writes of her early life in the Adirondack Mountains, as a teen in a Dutch colony along the Hudson River, and later in a manor house in England. As an adult, Sky Flower--accomplished in languages--teaches children in an improvised "school." Here along the Mohawk River, just where it flows into the Hudson River, she spends her adult years before seeking solitude in her mountain homeland. We read of a long and eventful life with the joys and heartaches of Sky Flower's experiences.
