Jesse Camden, fiftyish owner of Myrtle Grove’s popular Gilded Lily Tea Room and Coffee House, can tell there’s something weighing on her friend’s mind when she agrees to a predawn rendezvous with Winnie Rogers. Hoping it’s nothing serious, Jesse packs a brunch and sets out for some early morning fishing and possible soul searching along the banks of a secluded lake.

But the two women have barely touched on what’s troubling Winnie when a spring storm kicks up, a tornado drops out of a wall cloud practically on top of them, and Jesse and Winnie are left stranded with a demolished pickup and a dead body before they’ve even opened the picnic basket.

When two strangers more menacing than helpful arrive, and the normally unflappable Winnie falls apart after noticing the bullet hole in the body left by the tornado, Jesse decides she will have to call on Sheriff Joe Tyler for rescue, like it or not. Once again caught in a looming murder investigation, Jesse is soon scrambling to discover the truth before the secret Winnie’s hiding sends everything spinning out of control.
