When I Look at You, Book 3 in the Bring on the Rain Saga
Jason Coburn is a tough, Copper Creek, man, part of the large clan of Coburn’s who worked and played hard—and earned their reputation in Copper Creek, Tennessee. On the surface, everything came pretty easy to Jason, at least the women. Singing bass in one of the Coburn family bands, he has spent the last few years gaining a rep as a guy out for good-times and an easy lay. A rep that his father, Mitch, isn’t all that crazy about, since he knew what was really behind those type of non-committed flings. Mitch was also aware that his bitter divorce with Jason’s mother, Rhonda, hadn’t been easy on his son, particularly when Jason had to go live with her and be groomed to fit Rhonda’s dreams. In the years since, Jason’s mother called him incessantly, offering nothing but criticism since he’d chosen to live his life in Copper Creek among the large Coburn family.
Briane O’Fahy Richards had been a friend of Brook Logan Coburn’s since back when they played in a rock band together that toured Europe. A native of Ireland, Briane was barely getting by in those days, grieving the death of her young husband, having to leave her son in order to play the gigs, and for a time, completely losing her ability to connect with the music she loved, the music of her soul and culture. Now years later, she has accepted Brook’s invitation to move to America and start life anew. As Briane says, there are no more rehearsals for a woman her age; she has to get this right. Of course, Briane has secretly kept photos and film of Jason Coburn that Brook gave her, secretly fantasizing about the guy with black wavy hair, sky blue eyes and sexy cleft chin. Nothing if not down to earth, Briane isn’t there to play games, and from the time Jason picks up Briane, her sister Kiera, and niece Mora at the airport, it’s fantasy-shatteringly obvious that the Jason of her dreams is in reality a player. Jason, having been knocked on his ass the first time Briane Richards turned her green eyes on him—and looked into his soul—is about to have his world torn apart and his heart completely captured.
The Coburn’s know about sacrifice, pulling together, doing the right thing, for all their toughness, their faith, loyalty, and ability to love deep, is what set’s them apart. However, no one could have written beforehand the cost that Jason would have to pay or the choices he had yet to make, least of all Jason himself. (revised 2012)
