More than a year has passed since the horrors of infection began, and after spending months comfortably living and working in an Army lab at West Point, Dr. Rebecca "Becks" Truesdale volunteers for a mission to help develop new ways to fight the zombie parasites. An accident leaves her stranded, injured, and alone in the northern New Jersey suburbs, which have enormous herds of the undead, and even more dangerous human predators. Becks must find food, shelter, and weapons, as she tries to survive the long, cold winter, and then struggles to go through miles of zombie-infested streets to get back to a safe zone.
