Tom London is a twenty-year-old orphan, the only survivor of his family. Since he's also a werewolf, and his family was his pack, that makes him an alpha by default, leader of pack of one. He just spent a night with Sheriff Ray Prescott, who is perfectly human but strong and dominant enough to make Tom feel like he's not alone anymore.
