So you want to play with magic? French Quarter private investigator Wyatt Thomas learns that doing so might be a bad idea. When basketball player Taj Davis is traded mid-season to New Orleans, he spends his first night in an old French Quarter hotel. Crowded because of the Christmas holidays, he's assigned a room unused in decades. He finds out why when a demonic presence chases him into the hallway. With a bloody voodoo doll as his only clue, he consults a cemetery keeper who advises him to hire voodoo mambo Mama Mulate and French Quarter sleuth, Wyatt Thomas. Their ensuing investigation leads them to murder, a reincarnated Irish witch, and a terrible secret long hidden in a forbidden French Quarter garden.
