Blood claimed Ben's white t-shirt. Heavily and slowly, deep red spread throughout every fiber of it. Bewildered and stuck in my position, I cried out to him in my mind, my heart. I tried to breathe. Struggled to find his name with my tongue...finally I inhaled and reached for him, "Ben!" He stumbled back and tipped over the edge of the boat, into the danger of the deep blue sea. A single tear dribbled down my cheek. The black of night woefully whispered the sorrows of his death. And I, I did something I would have never done. I stood determined to save him and ripped the orange vest from my chest. I ran, ignoring my mother screeching my name, "Eva, no!"--I dove in after Ben. I jumped into the deep blue...I would never return.
