Lord Rowley, known as Roue Rowley is the most attractive raffish eccentric of his time. Alone exiled from England by the strictly converted society around Queen Victoria, he is worried that his reputation will hurt his daughter. He arranges for Darcia to be chaperoned by the widow of the French Ambassador to the Court of St James and for his daughter to be legally the Countess de Sauze.
