Alex wakes up four weeks later. Cured. And still breathing. Thanks to Nick Walker, without him she'd be dead.

She's still coming to terms with the fact that she's alive but with Drew gone she has to deal with the aftermath and the hollow void he's left behind. She's looking forward to getting out of the science lab and getting back to Lane when a new problem arises and puts Nick in danger and at risk of someone else stealing his research.

A new plan is quickly put in place to get to Washington, D.C. so that Nick can deliver the cure himself.

Alex and her friends set out on another dangerous journey, meeting new people along the way.

And the return of Drew sets off fireworks and has Alex questioning his motives. He doesn't want to be there, yet he can't seem to stay away.
