D'Arbignal, the self-proclaimed "greatest swordsman in the world", has learned his future and the knowledge has brought him little joy. Reckless at even the best of times, D'Arbignal has descended into drink and flashing lots of cash in inadvisable places.

A dangerous man decides that D'Arbignal would make an ideal mark. He sends two of his prostitutes to keep D'Arbignal occupied until the ambush can arranged. Belle, the older of the two, is fascinated by the swashbuckling hero and that fascination puts her loyalty to the ultimate test.
