An Unimaginable Discovery begins the Window On The Past trilogy set at the dawn of humanity’s expansion to the stars.
After years of frustrating struggle, physicists Ann Grey and her estranged husband have created the first quantum-entangled communicator capable of sending messages instantaneously anywhere in the galaxy. The timing couldn’t be better. The UN has outposts on the moon and Mars, and NASA selects their system for the Jupiter expedition. But the communicator suddenly fails, and Ann is devastated, her life’s work ruined. She despairs of ever understanding why, until she discovers the communicator’s unbelievable flaw—it cannot transmit lies about the past.
The implications are mind-boggling. Any event that ever happened throughout history can be tested, and the incredible discovery cannot be kept secret. A British politician recognizes it is the key to becoming Prime Minister and steals it; Ann’s husband is killed. When told of the impossible ability, a fanatical jihadist group attempts to destroy the communicator and kill Ann. The Vatican realizes the seemingly miraculous ability could ruin the Church, purchases a communicator and enlists Ann’s help. And when the Jupiter expedition is sabotaged and left marooned beyond Mars, Ann employs her discovery to rescue the spaceship.
Amidst all the turmoil a chance encounter with Alex Baxter, a highway surveyor, saves her from a nightmarefate. Ann captures his heart, but their budding romance is threatened by unrelenting assassination attempts. With Alex’s unflagging love Ann survives and vows that nothing will stop her from unraveling how the quantum lie-detector works. And then an alien makes contact and changes everything.
