After the Fall of Civilization
It is the end of history.
The flame of humanity is extinguished, and the new lords of the Earth relentlessly sift the ashes for survivors. Called zombies, though far exceeding anything ever imagined in myth or legend, they are excellent hunters with heightened senses, and humans are their only prey. Blazing fast, regenerative, indestructible, and strong enough to crush stone, they can convert a victim to a zombie in under a minute, or else devour them down to the last piece of flesh and bone. Worst of all, they possess a collective intelligence that increases when they gather in numbers. In an improbable four days, they encircle the globe, converting or devouring all that they meet, leaving only remnants, struggling to stay hidden and stay alive. When they feed...
Dear God, when they fed...
On day fifteen of the outbreak, hidden inside his unique, luxury apartment, Marshal Einarsson has come to believe that he is the last human alive. He still has power, food, and hot, running water, and a home so well camouflaged that the undead cannot find it. As he gazes out his Terrible Window at the apocalypse, he is confronted by the inevitability of extinction, and the oppressive weight of being the last man alive. Helpless and alone, he feels his sanity slipping, and mocked by the devouring shadows at the end of the world.
And then, through the Terrible Window, he sees the impossible figure of a twelve-year old girl, Angie, wriggling through the rubble and waste across the street. She is filthy and starving and also, Marshal realizes, about to die. Knowing he can save her, he must decide whether to risk his own life, or simply close the curtain.
His decision kicks off a journey of hope and redemption, survival and reconstruction, as human cleverness is pitted against an implacable enemy that holds all the cards. Arising like embers from Oblivion's ashes, challenges emerge that will test Marshal’s commitment, leadership, and what he thinks he knows about his own history, in an war to bring humanity back from the brink of extinction, rebuild its future, and solve the mystery of the undead origins.
