Following on from the successful ‘Other Roads’ in 20 chapters, this book looks at a further range of scenarios that would have altered the outcome of the Second World War as we know it. Starting with the the overthrow of the Austrian government in 1932 or in 1936 it goes on to discuss the impact of a the consequences of a failed German invasion of Britain; more effective combat by the Allies in Belgium; a stronger Soviet response to Operation Barbarossa and what would have happened if the USSR had developed the atomic bomb first. It analyses other options for Italy from not becoming an ally of Germany to successfully conquering Greece and for France from entering a union with Britain. The book also considers the outcomes of Japanese victory in the Pacific and the assassination of Hitler.
NOTE: 'Other Roads II' DOES NOT contain stories. It has chapters analysing different potential outcomes in history. It is closest in style to the ‘what if?’ collections edited by Peter Tsouras, Robert Crowley, Duncan Brack, Niall Ferguson and Andrew Roberts. It is suggested that you check them out if you are uncertain whether this one is the sort of book you are looking for.
The book draws on Alexander Rooksmoor’s two decades researching and teaching history and uses years of analysis and debate into counterfactuals. It looks at both the detailed changes that could have occurred as well as much broader potential outcomes. This is a book that will fascinate anyone with an interest in why a central event of modern history unfolded the way it did. Fans of alternate history will find in ‘Other Roads II’ much to intrigue and provoke them.
