Tsunami Beach marks the return of Shane, Mikaela, and Amy Cooper from the dystopian adventure, Devastated Lands. The setting for this contemporary crime thriller is the rugged seaside town of Cannon Beach, Oregon.
It's been 17 years since the Coopers' survival ordeal west of Mount Rainier. Amy is now 22 y.o. and teaches in an elementary school in town, just a half mile from the sea. 8 y.o. sister Shauna attends the school.
Sixty miles offshore is a stretch of the 600-mile long mega-thrust earthquake and tsunami region called the Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ).
The tiny community of 1,100 and its tourist crowds have problems much closer to home, however, including the disappearance of Gail Davies. She was a former dancer on the Vegas Strip who works for Tony Jonze's girlfriend Jodie. Gail 's friend Evelyn, who was also partying at the Pelican Brew on Gail's last night, has also gone missing.
A famous big wave surfer who has a drug-dealer past, Shred Thurston, is one of the suspects.
Stephen Graves, a black detective who works the Portland Metro beat, is brought in to investigate the killing. He's originally from the projects in Roxbury, Mass., once worked for the LAPD. and is a whiz with crime databases and DNA science.
The evidence also implicates a loan shark Gail got involved with in Vegas.
This mashup of dystopian adventure and detective thriller follows our protagonists as they cope with crime and the looming threat of natural disaster.
