Karl Marx spent the last seven years of his life trying to reconstruct the precapitalist stages in social and cultural evolution including the stages of primitive communism obscured in extreme antiquity. He hoped that such insight might explain why the German social democracy had gone immediately off onto the wrong path, That work is now completed in this book.
