Captured by hostiles, a white child is raised by the Delaware tribe. He is renamed “Ironhawk” by one of the honored names—the frontiersman, Rob Shatto, known among the tribes as Quehana, the Arrowmaker. Ironhawk is exchanged following Pontiac's defeat in 1763, and now approaching manhood, he adventures between Indian and white worlds aided by his powerful mentor Rob Shatto. The way is hard, and it is sometimes bloody, but the rewards of learning to speak and read English open worlds—both white and Indian—that prove to be challenging and dangerous.
