One particularly grim November weekend, Theodora Braithwaite attends a conference at Bolly’s Jolly Holiday Home, a run-down resort on the East Anglian coast. Several of her old friends are here and she’s looking forward to catching up with them.

But the merriment comes to a grinding halt when the Reverend Daniel Ripe stumbles across a dead man stuffed inside a washing machine.

The police have been informed.

Everyone must remain calm.

No one can leave the site.

Those are the Bishop’s orders.

The newly-promoted Superintendent Spruce is on the case, and he wants Theodora’s help.
