It's No Picnic is a psychologically mystifying and at the same time darkly comical tale that maintains, to the very end, an invariable, inexorable air of perplexity and peculiarity. Outwardly, the subject is one of a detective tale, but the story’s main strength is its account of one Alexander Lax. More remotely, it is a statement on the absurdity and asininity of the ordinary in everyday human affairs and a question of how free we are to pursue them.
