Well written. Good character development but not over done. Felt like I was back on the streets of Paris after the revolution I would recommend to anyone that likes historical novels.

As always, the author’s skillful writing and beautiful sense of the period take the reader on journey that is both gripping and instructive.

Bookworm about Waterloo:

This novel really draws you in to the era and is a great read whether you know the period or not. If you have some knowledge about the Napoleonic wars and Waterloo then this is a pleasurable way to extend that with a sideways look and enjoy a gripping detective story at the same time. If you don’t it’s fine. The novel is skilfully enough written to make sure you keep up without realising what you’re learning! The characters are immediately believable and for an era of history often dominated by overtly “military” novels this is a refreshing take as it has a broad sweep of situations and characters.
