A Theory of Gravity

This is a philosophical and sociological science fiction story about astronauts arriving at and being trapped in an asteroid that is part of the Kuiper Belt. They find themselves inside of a maze where strange inscriptions are carved on doors and windows which they carefully copy. Eventually they reach a large room where alien colonists cordially offer to house, feed,, and teach them. They learn the creatures' language eventually and are able to translate the inscriptions which turn out to be two different essays one of which is a theory of gravity and the other is an essay about special connections intelligent beings sometimes feel for another. The astronauts spend some time considering and evaluating the two essays and llook forward to fiinding out how people back on Earth will react to them. The astronauts, being of different sexes and strongly attracted physically and psychologically to one another, fall in love and have a child together with the help of the aliens before returning to Earth where they are acclaimed.
