When John McBride flies into Chicago for his US tour of hist painting exhibition, he is mistaken by the Mafia for an English drug baron who is intent on setting up in business in the USA. He accidentally kills the Don's son while attempting to escape. From that moment on, the Mafia are chasing him. On his part, McBride is killing his opponents one by one.
