A Commentary on the Book of Genesis · From Noah to Abraham (Umberto Cassuto Biblical Commentaries)

Part Two covers Genesis 6:9-11:32. The Appendix is the beginning of Part Three, Abraham and the Promised Land, on Genesis 12-17, but Cassuto died in the course of his work thus we only have fragments of his remaining comments. The aim of this commentary is to explain, with the help of an historico-philological method of interpretation, the simple meaning of the biblical text, and to arrive, as nearly as possible, at the sense that the words of the Torah were intended to have for the reader at the time they were written.
