Like most of the family, Tony resents my position. At first, there were rebellious factions confident that a pretty boy, bastard Greasie would be easy to intimidate, maybe even eliminate. Turns out gangs are like most institutions, you just have to make a few examples to assert your position. They just require a little more brutality. After that, a certain stance, a look, or a tone is enough.

I spread out the various sources of information on my desk. Tony’s preferred means of information through paper and snapshots shows his age and reluctance to embrace technology. There are clear benefits to this reluctance. Such as the uniqueness of his information.

I spent the last couple of hours waiting for Tony, Googling for a connection between Marguerite and Raisa. There is plenty of info on Raisa. At least on the persona she is presenting. The information is so accessible and uniform, I am now absolutely convinced it is a cover. She is definitely hiding something. My flesh is starting to creep because I am concerned she might be a plant. The idea that she is infiltrating my life intent on betraying me, rips at my gut so hard, I feel ill. What amazes me most is that none of that translates into feelings of anger, resentment or a need to guard against her.

Sure, I am torn up that her desire might be rooted in playing an undercover role rather than genuine feelings. That her reluctance and then surrender to me are simply part of a contrived plan to manipulate. Only, I don’t care. Ultimately, none of this is a barrier to my desire for her. I still want her. I am still obsessed. Still determined to have her, regardless. What I said in the gallery still stands. She is mine, now. Whoever she is. I will make her care. I will do whatever it takes to force those fabricated feelings to become real.
