Samantha Baker is ten years old. She’s the youngest of Charlie’s survivors. And, after two months of living in the rooftop camp, Samantha Baker is missing.
Her father claims to know who has taken her, and where they have gone. However, Charlie doesn’t think Fred Baker can be trusted. Unanswered questions surrounding Samantha’s disappearance still nag at him. Like, how did the kidnappers get into camp when access to the roof is completely locked down? And then there is the question of, why would the Black Queen of Johnson City want a ten year old girl?
The answers to these questions lay further down State of Franklin, in the former Medical Center, but sitting between them and where Fred Baker says they have taken his daughter is the group known as the Headhunters. The most vicious and blood thirsty group of survivors in the area.
Charlie’s group are no strangers to dangerous encounters, they have already had to fight a war to keep what’s theirs, but Charlie knows a fight away from home will be much harder to win. He has to decided whether or not to go after Samantha and possibly put his people at risk, or to stay out of it and ensure his peoples safety.
To Charlie, what is being sold as a kidnapping seems to be something far more sinister. And he knows he needs to figure out what the Black Queen is planning and how his group, and the Headhunters, fit into those plans if he is to keep his people, himself, and Samantha Baker, a good distance from dying.
