There’s nothing new about Houston Detective Steve Smiley being called to investigate a homicide. However, asphyxiation by marijuana smoke is a first.

Smiley finds himself stuck with a temporary senior partner looking to make a fast close on this case. The first likely suspect is arrested. Smiley’s gut instinct says they have the wrong guy, but with no help from his partner, can he prove it?

Before he can make headway with the case, Steve and his new partner find themselves under the microscope of an Internal Affairs investigation. Beaten while in custody, the suspect is fighting for his life. Internal Affairs is looking for scalps. The more, the better.

With his career at stake, Smiley turns to his laid-up veteran partner to help him find the real killer. Can Steve solve this mystery before the Internal Affairs noose tightens? Or will this case, and Smiley’s career, be up in smoke?
