The zombie apocalypse started one year ago.
Life as everyone knew it was over in a matter of days.
No one knew what stared it. All they knew was that nothing would ever be the same again.
What remained now was little more than a dead world.
Most of the cities and towns still stood and the streets were buzzing with activity, but it was the kind of activity you avoided if you wanted to live.
The story follows three groups that had managed to survive. Surrounded by the dead, each group attempts to escape a horrible fate and hopefully find a way to go on and live in what is left of their world.
If they are lucky, they will live.
But maybe if they are really lucky, they won’t.
Carrie Jenkins, a young attractive redhead and the traffic reporter for WTAE TV in Pittsburgh had always felt she was just another pretty face in a man’s world.
When the apocalypse came, Carrie found that being a pretty face in a man’s world was definitely a liability.
After a narrow escape from the dead, she found herself hiding in the old abandoned Mercy Hospital building in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The hospital was surrounded by the dead with no way out.
She also found herself surrounded by nine men.
“Some things will never change,” she thought.
After what she had lived through over the past year, Carrie had some serious trust issues.
Fortunately she was more than just a pretty face. She also had an ability that could give her a fighting chance to get herself and the others out of their grim situation.
But first she would have to learn to trust others again.
After his parents had disappeared, Jim found himself hiding in of all places, his old elementary school. He had not had a very good experience in elementary school. Every room in the school held another unhappy memory and that was not about to change for the better anytime soon.
He had just graduated from high school and had hoped to never set foot in a school again, particularly this one.
Regardless of what he wanted, here he was back at his old elementary school surrounded by a dead town crawling with the dead.
With his food running out, he had to make a decision. To make things even harder, he had to take care of his two younger sisters, sixteen year old Debbie and six year old Monica.
It was almost more than he could bear when it appeared Jim would have to decide which one of his sisters he would be able to save and which one would die.
Before Jim could decide what to do, a solution presented itself.
It was a longshot and it wouldn’t be easy.
If things didn’t work out, they would all die.
Ricki and his brother Denny survived the first wave of the dead, only to find themselves hiding in the Fairfield Community Center with a group of unfriendly outsiders. Ricki had to find a way for him and his brother to escape the dead, but first they had to escape from the outsiders who had other plans for him and his brother.
With their options limited, they put their plan into action. But honestly, even if they managed to escape, would life really be any better?
Each of the groups put their plans into action. When dealing with the dead, nothing ever goes as planned.
Combined with the other obstacles facing them, they do the best they can to survive.
But sometimes, your best is just not good enough.
Who survives to live another day?
Can any of them avoid the fate that seems inevitable for the few groups of the living that struggle to survive in the nightmare that is now life in a dead world?
