Donna Carroll is an ex-socialite who is trying to escape the limelight after a nasty, public divorce. Heading home to Mars Hill, North Carolina, she stays hidden away while her ego and pride recover. On her first public outing, she witnesses a strange attack on a waitress. The violence shakes Donna, but it's the arrival of Sheriff Bud Blackheart, her high school sweetheart, that convinces Donna to stop being a hermit. As she and Bud renew their relationship, Donna learns that Mars Hill has become overrun with strange violence and death.

Can Donna figure out the cause of the madness? Or will she become another casuality?
