Compendium of the Heart
Spanning several generations, Compendium Of The Heart is a three-part epic love story. It's also a thriller, and a raunchy, emotive drama all rolled into one.
At times, you will despair at some of the actions of the characters, or laugh and cry with them, but you wont forget them, as they grow stronger, weaker or more disturbed as the book progresses.
Meeting Sally and Lizzie as impressionable young students back in 1962, you find yourself sharing their many experiences, both good and bad as they battle adversity in its many forms.
The story begins at Falcondale, a remote university set in rural Wales. Sally, a naive undergraduate becomes life-long friends with the extroverted Lizzie, while venturing out during their first night on campus.
Sally becomes involved with the manipulative and dangerous, Frank Gant. She then brings his wrath upon herself when she meets bohemian, William Peddlescoombe in the library, and falls in love with him.
Meanwhile, Lizzie discovers truths not only about her parentage, but also about herself, after an emotional visit home.
Frank's depravity reaches new heights when he date rapes the timid, and studious Pauline at a local hotel. There follows a controversial court case which tests Sally and William's relationship to the limit.
Pauline, pregnant and expelled from university, decides to wait for Frank to return from prison.
