DeeDee Pearson is suffering a midlife crisis. Unfortunately, she's somewhat past "midlife" and is trying to find her "niche" so she can contribute to her and her husband Steve's retirement fund. Having tried catering, she's now jumped into journalism, having just landed a part-time gig at her hometown paper the Kemper Times. No sooner does she start her new job, but her tyrannical boss Kate Weston is found murdered in the paper's break room. Did one of the staff reporters finally have enough of the demanding woman's ways? Or could another enemy have sneaked into the building and offed the obnoxious editor? No one really seems to care--a strange reaction for a bunch of reporters, thinks DeeDee, so she determines to find the killer on her own--probably not the wisest move for the paper's newest (yet oldest) cub reporter. DeeDee's quest soon leads her to some unusual potential tie-ins with her less-than-beloved former employer--including her own daughter.
