Auckland, 1885.

Determined to take control of her life, Isabel decides to marry Murk despite the fact that Auckland’s peers and maybe even the Queen won’t accept a former thief, and man-whore as her husband. When a supernatural killer slashes the throat of a few toffs, she’s asked to investigate. Suspicion falls on the man her warden chose as her betrothed, an ambitious businessman who seems struck by an exceptional good luck in his business deals.
