This is book 1.5 in the Trix SinClara series and contains spoilers for book 1: The House. It is advisable to start with Necromancer's Revenge, the first short story, then The House, the first full length novel.

Mal is a Necromancer who lives her life balancing favours and debts but the recent reveal of the magical community has put her in a position she never wished to be in. The Covenant and the witch's High Council wants control of all supernatural people in Britain but Mal is less than enthusiastic about bowing to their authority. She lives in the back alleys with the dregs of human society and she likes it. But to keep her place and her territory she has to do something for the Covenant because if any trouble comes out the back alleys they are planning to hold her responsible and power or no, she's not likely to survive their tender mercies for long if that happens. An old enemy she though long gone isn't helping matters and Mal has some decisions to make about the people around her. Does she really want them to become her people?
