An unsolved murder. A missing heir. Lost treasure. An innocent guy, trapped by false accusations. An unscrupulous villain who will stop at nothing...
Nineteen year old Anika Riley and her family move to a small cabin in the mountains after tragedy leaves the Rileys nearly destitute. She thinks she’s had enough excitement after the last year to last the rest of her life, thank you very much… but that was nothing compared to what she’s about to face.
Anika sets out to explore the forest surrounding her new home and discovers an abandoned castle-like mansion towering in the center of a rose garden. When she stops to help an elderly stranger in distress she suddenly finds herself left in charge of the House of Bannerman estate, and tasked with solving a 144 year old family mystery-- who really murdered Delevan and Miles Bannerman.
Her first day searching for clues, Anika meets Miles. A smart, attractive, easy-going guy with a sense of humor. He has a loyal dog for a companion as does she, only his… can walk through walls. So can he. Anika is the only person able to see either of them.
Miles can tell Anika exactly what happened and who was responsible the day he died and was falsely accused of murdering his brother. Without proof though, he’ll remain stuck in “semi-transparent guy” mode, unable to rest with that stain on his name. Anika is sure she can find proof and is determined to free this truly nice guy.
Now Anika’s got the best job ever, searching for evidence in the mysterious mansion that’s “bigger on the inside than it is on the outside”, with Miles, the best friend she’s ever had.
Then everything changes.
A distant relation of the Bannerman family appears, seeking legal means to usurp control of the estate as trustee. Suddenly it’s a race to clear Miles’s name before the cousin can succeed in his plans, ban Anika from the estate, and destroy Miles’s only chance of being set free.
It will take everything Anika has to clear her friend’s name, but the price she’ll have to pay in order to free Miles may be higher than either of them can bear…
