Hal Denbris decides to join an expedition into the Vallis Marineris on Mars to search for his friend Pete, who'se plane crashed somewhere in the wilderness. Accompanying him is the excentric detective Warren Herrick, who suspects the location of the crash will contain hints to the plans of a terrorist organisation.
