Sex. Violence. Child abuse by a priest. These things and more are found in Robert Angelone’s memoir, Str8ish. Covering more than sixty years of an amazing life, this autobiographical work blows open the doors on the secretive world of straight men who have sexual relationships with another man.
Robert was the victim of repeated abuse by a Catholic priest between ages 8 and 10, side-by-side with his childhood best friend. Those in Robert’s later life helped him cope, though the savage molestation caused countless difficulties and extreme difficulties. He can never be made whole, but he’s managed to survive with close friends in support. He lives with PTSD because of those repeated assaults.
Robert's life is indiscreetly detailed throughout. He normally keeps his sexuality to himself, but in Str8ish, it's exposed. Stripped of all his self-imposed firewalls, he bares all. Those he has loved are principally heterosexual, a fact that has kept him safe despite an extremely active sex life. It is because of his romantic journey that he wrote this memoir, Str8ish, hoping to reveal the nature of men who have intimate, long-lasting friendships and the joys and sorrows they create.
His preference for men who are Str8ish afforded him a life filled with incredible love, amazing intimacy, and a stellar career. Many of them inspired him to achievements most men don’t dream about.
The memoir details the incredible men he’s loved and who’ve loved him. He discusses the nature of male sexuality, focusing on the behavior of supposedly heterosexual males engaging in homosexual acts and the actual romantic, long-term relationships that evolve.
The slang term is “on the down low,” though the more appropriate term is Str8ish, which is far more common than most would think. It describes in lurid detail the romantic behavior of his lovers and the strength of the love between them. In many cases, that love has endured for decades.
Rarely does a memoir have the potential to change lives and open up a hidden behavior to public discussion. Str8ish does all that and helps men and women understand secretive male sexual behavior.
Robert has made and lost a fortune, raised his lovers' children, and achieved amazing things, including writing language that became federal law. He did all this despite the pain and anguish of three years of abuse as a young boy.
Robert Angelone is the publisher of Epicurus.com, one of the major food websites, online since 1996. He’s a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris (1980). He is a well-respected economist whose influence on Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) and Asset Backed Securities (ABS) was dramatic. He spent decades as a restaurant consultant serving clients all over the world.
As a successful consultant, he’s been an innovator, but mostly a problem-solver, coming up with creative solutions for all sorts of issues. He has a keen mind for analytics, and for crafting the result that best meets the long-term need, beyond the immediate problem. He created the first all-digital consumer magazine, and developed an award-winning rodent control program for New York City’s historic Central Park.
Str8ish: A Memoir is a journey that takes readers through his travels, education, and business life, interspersed with detailed accounts of his intimate life details, friendships, and family. It is an exposé of hidden sexual behavior, and the secret lives men lead. It is also a painful accounting of the effects of child sex abuse.
Today, disabled, in his 60s, he runs an autism nonprofit dedicated to supporting those on the spectrum as they age out of education and to protecting their civil rights and freedoms of autistic adults.
